This is partly inspired by my cousin in law's recent birth of her first child, a bouncing baby boy. :) I wanted to capture that look of happy expectiancy that most mothers feel when they are going to have babies. Hope I got that!

I might be uploading this again in a few days: 1) depending on how extreme any changes I make to it to get into Epilogue, and 2) to actually make a print of it. I need to start putting things in my store. =p

Unfortunately because she's got her bewbies showing it's flagged as Mature. So you've been warned of teh ebil bewwwbiez!!! >:I

This is a really neat concept of motherhood! Unfortunately I can't comment on the expression, which is what you most likely desire most from your description, since I don't have any experience from it.

HOWEVER, I do like the neat perspective, from the POV of (maybe?) a developing baby which showcases the mommy's expression perfectly.

Also yes, those evil 58008 ^_^

Okay?

How in the world does that remotely apply to my art?
Touch-Not-This-Cat Featured By Owner May 10, 2007
Sorry, did not mean to confuse you! I was kind of rushed when I wrote that. I only ment that your depiction of fish like eggs only further adds to the debate on farie anatomy. (Assuming you want to stick to the minimum basic laws of biology, as Paul Anderson did. If not, the skys the limit, [or not!] and you don't have to give a damn about what I say.) Putting certian limits on characters and seeing how they get around them is universal fodder for making a story interesting. I think it is actually harder to come up with limits from scratch as the anciant story tellers did, because imagination is limited by Knowledge and experiance. By inserting a few moder biological limits into the anciant legends and forming the story aroand that can make some amazing plots. For example, how does a mermaid, that apears to be no fatter then a teenaged human, survive in cold waters that many a sailor saw one in without a thick layer of blubber? Paul Anderson said that they would need powerful, precise metabalisms that could boost their body heat at will, so long as they had a decent food supply. So what I want to know is, what is your take on farie anatomy?
SusieBeeca Featured By Owner Apr 5, 2007   General Artist
I'm going to be a huge biology nerd here and point out that fish fetuses don't have fins on their tails at that stage of development. :o Mind you, this is a fantasy species, so who knows?

Such a cute picture. :) Are the eggs themselves glowing?
MeliHitchcock Featured By Owner Apr 6, 2007  Professional Digital Artist
I took creative liberties. :XD: The connection between the two might not have been made unless the fetuses looked sort of mermaid-ish.

And yes, the eggs do give off a glow effect. :)

I'm actually discovering this by accident, I have google alerts set to send an email everytime my username gets used, so I came here to yell at Wasurenai-kara about it. :D
Overall, it's a wonderful work of art, the eggs, while they could be considered creepy, are well done. Circles, but not perfectly round. That's either very carefully done on purpose, or you screwed up a perfect circle.
The seaweed is carefully done, and the fact that she hid them in a bed of seaweed is a sign of thoughtfulness. Any smart sea creature will hide it's eggs somewhere such as in seaweed, in coral, even on the underside of larger creatures. There are even a few types that need the eggs to get eaten for them to live, so they put them where they will get eaten on accident, then when the young hatch, they devour the host from the inside out in a matter of a couple hours.
The mermaid herself is probably the mopst troubling part, am I right? Not only are you trying to get human anatomy correct, you're trying to tie it to an aquatic creature. The tail is nicely done, it shows that scales exist, but you're not close enough to really make them out. I also like the choice in colours, whenever I can make an avatar to have personalised colours, I always choose purple and green. (P'NURPLE N GHEEN!!! SQUEEEEEEEE!) So I just have to give you props for that touch alone.
Finally, you did well to capture the feelings of a mother. A fine combination of Joy, awe, wonder, contentment and love.
Once again, it is an overall well done work. Keep it up, I'm going to subscribe to you and then go yell at Wasurenai-kara.
Good day. ^^

Wow thats really original. I love the point of view with the upclose foreground going straight to the empty sea. The eggs look great and realistically artistic if you know what I mean. It has that painterly feel to it so it makes it that much better. The mermaid is done very well too, her pose looks natural and flowy and conveys a sense of slow motion. And her expression helps set the mood as a happy one. Great colors as well.

Mermaid fetuses? YUMMY. XD

This is a really interesting concept; I've never thought about baby mermaids hatching out of eggs... I guess I always assumed mermaids were more like whales than fish. :B

I like her ears for some reason. XD;; Her smile is also lovely. ^^
